Steve Linford: Bio

Born 1956 in Cleethorpes, Lincolnshire, England, UK. Lived in the neighbouring town of Grimsby (which is not in Yorkshire), went to Hereford School and then Grimsby College of Technology to join the Arts Foundation course (1974-5 I reckon).
Briefly at Camberwell School of Art, London on the Graphics course before getting a transfer to Hull College of Art and Design in February 1976.

Bands

1970. Fever. Imaginary band involving pimples and crap drawing of ourselves on stage.

1972. Glorfindel. Quite possibly the worst band name ever. Recorders, a mandolin, loons and slightly furry top lips.

1974. Desperate Norman And The Cushion Foot Stompers. Banjos, one actual real beard and waistcoats. Actually, you know what I said about 'Glorfindel'? I take it back.

1976. The John Toast Quartet. At the height of our fame we supported 'Dead Fingers Talk' at Hull College and someone stole half our gear.

1977. Private Flash. Rose from the embers of JTQ. We recorded some songs in a real actual studio, I've still got the cassette.

1978. The Optimists. Most of us moved to London, we supported Cozy Powell and recorded a commercial for Weston Carpets.

1979 . I married Judy, love of my life and we moved to Cambridge in 1980ish. Band carried on as a three piece, I think the pinnacle of our achievements was playing Arkenstall Village Centre in Haddenham.

1986. Judy's pregnant, perfect time to form a band: This Side Up. Joe, our first son is born in September and we are finalists in the first Cambridge Rock Competition. We tucked our jumpers in our trousers and rocked the Corn Exchange.

1987. The Way. Totally different band from last year, again finalists in the Cambridge Rock Competition. We didn't tuck our jumpers in this time.

1989. The Radiators. Our first gig is a house warming, hence the name. James our second son is a few weeks old and sleeps though it.

1996. Linford. Played a few great gigs and released a CD: Nothing Personal.

1998. Loose Covers. Formed from bits of previous bands. We're still going: book us for your party! www.loosecoversmusic.co.uk

2007. Freeman Hill. Playing bass and doing some backing vocals. Find out more about us at www.freemanhill.com
